Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed a second half penalty as Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth in a hugely controversial game at Old Trafford.
United started brightly and after missing a host of chances they eventually broke then deadlock when Marcos Rojo turned home Antonio Valencia’s cross-come-shot in the 23rd minute.
Bournemouth grew in to the game and were given the ideal chance to level things up when Phil Jones fouled Marc Pugh in the area. Josh King made no mistake from the penalty spot to make it 1-1 in the 40th minute.
Then came the games controversial moment as, after some confusion, Andrew Surman was eventually sent off for a second booking after pushing Ibrahimovic to the ground after the United striker had caught Tyrone Mings with an elbow.
Zlatan had got his own back for an earlier incident that saw Mings appear to stamp on the Swedish strikers head but Bournemouth were down to ten men shortly before the break while Ibrahimovic and Mings escaped unpunished.
United dominated the second half but couldn’t make their man advantage count as the visitors held on to secure an unlikely point that leaves Jose Mourinho’s men sitting sixth in the Premier League table.
