Mourinho Offers Update After Man Utd Suffer Fresh Double Injury Blow

Manchester United’s injury crisis has deepened even further after Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw both limped out of this afternoon’s 1-1 draw with Swansea City at Old Trafford.

Shaw was handed only his third Premier League start of the season as he replaced Matteo Darmian at left-back but the England international’s game didn’t last long as he was forced off inside the opening ten minutes.

Antonio Valencia replaced the 21-year-old and speaking after another frustrating home draw, boss Mourinho admitted that Shaw’s injury must be serious for him to have limped off so early in the game.

To compound United’s woes at the back, Bailly was then substituted in the 61st minute but Mourinho is more hopeful on the Ivory Coast international.

Bailly made his ninth consecutive start against Swansea today making it over 800 minutes in succession and Mourinho is hoping the young defender is just feeling the effects of the prolonged period without a rest.

Mourinho told ManUtd.com:

“I don’t know at all. Luke has to be a big injury, when you’re out after 10 minutes, it has to be a big injury. Eric, maybe he is injured but, at the same time, maybe it’s in relation to him being the guy who’s played 800 minutes of football in April. Maybe he has also a relation to that.”

We’ll have to wait for the injuries to be further assessed before we’ll know how long Shaw and Bailly will be out for but United will be praying for positive news as their injury problems at the back mount.

They are already without Marcos Rojo for around nine months, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are also still nursing knee and foot injuries while Timothy Fosu-Mensah picked up a shoulder problem last week.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also out for several months with a serious knee injury, Paul Pogba missed the game today with a muscle problem while Marouane Fellaini has started a three-game ban so Mourinho’s options are low on the ground.

There was some positive news today as Juan Mata made his return to the squad but Mourinho will be praying some of his defenders get themselves fit as soon as possible as they look to push for the top four and prepare for their Europa League semi-finals against Celta Vigo.
