Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has offered a positive injury update after confirming he didn’t suffer any serious problem during Monday night’s 1-0 win over Watford.
Coutinho once again started in attack at Vicarage Road but required treatment during the early stages of the game after taking a heavy kick to his leg.
The Brazilian international initially tried to run it off but he was eventually forced off in the 13th minute with Adam Lallana coming on to replace the playmaker.
It sparked fears Coutinho may have sustained a serious injury which could have seen him miss Liverpool’s remaining three games of the season but Jurgen Klopp was hopeful it wasn’t serious after the game.
The Reds boss is quoted as saying by Liverpoolfc.com that Coutinho had merely suffered a dead leg:
“He has a dead leg, hopefully it’s not too serious but of course it’s really painful and no chance [he could continue]. Everybody could see he tried hard, but no chance.”
Coutinho then took to Instagram to share a photo of him posing with goal-scorer Emre Can on the team coach where he appeared to confirm the good news by saying ‘it isn’t serious‘.
Obviously this news will come as a huge relief to Liverpool as it would have been a major blow had they lost Coutinho as they look to secure a top four finish in the Premier League.
The Merseysiders cemented their third-placed position in the table with last night’s win over Watford and can go another step closer to Champions League qualification when they entertain Southampton at Anfield this coming weekend.
