Liverpool have been handed a major injury boost with Philippe Coutinho expected to be fit for Sunday’s crucial clash with Southampton, according to the Mirror.
Coutinho picked up an injury during the early stages of Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Watford at Vicarage Road on Monday night after taking a heavy kick to his leg.
The Brazilian international tried to continue after receiving treatment but he was eventually forced off and was replaced by Adam Lallana in the 13th minute.
Coutinho was spotted on the bench with an ice pack and strapping on his thigh which led to fears he may have suffered a serious injury which could potentially have ended his season.
However, Jurgen Klopp eased those fears by confirming after the game that the attacker had only suffered a dead leg and the player himself took to Instagram to confirm the injury isn’t serious.
The Mirror are now reporting that Coutinho is set to resume full training on Thursday and is therefore expected to be available for Sunday’s clash with Southampton at Anfield.
The news will come as a welcome relief to Klopp as the Liverpool boss is already without Sadio Mane for the rest of the campaign so it would have been a huge blow had Coutinho joined him on the sidelines.
Monday’s win kept Liverpool in pole position to secure a top four finish with the Merseysiders heading in to the weekend action sitting third in the table and three points ahead of fourth-placed Manchester City – although their rivals do have a game in hand.
