Newcastle United are ready to meet Arsenal’s £15m asking price to sign Kieran Gibbs with the GunnerS already securing Sead Kolasinac as his replacement, according to a report in The Sun.
Gibbs has been with Arsenal since joining the club from Wimbledon as a teenager and he progressed through the youth system before breaking in to the first team set-up in 2007.
However, Gibbs has struggled to hold down a regular place in recent years with Nacho Monreal occupying the left-back berth at the Emirates and it’s led to question marks over his future.
The 27-year-old is about to enter the final year of his contract and there is no sign a new deal will be agreed so Gibbs is expected to leave Arsenal in search of regular first team football this summer.
The Sun are citing a report from the Mirror that claims Newcastle are eyeing a swoop for the former England international and are prepared to meet Arsenal’s £15m valuation.
Rafa Benitez is gearing up for a busy summer after securing promotion back to the Premier League and Gibbs would provide him with an experienced option at left-back next season if they could lure him to St James’ Park.
It looks like Wenger has already found a replacement for Gibbs as the Express are reporting that Sead Kolasinac is set to complete his proposed switch to north London any day.
The Bosnian international has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months and is expected to seal a free transfer move after running his contract down at Schalke.
Kolasinac has been one of the best left-back’s in the Bundesliga over the past two seasons and his attacking instincts mean he should be well suited to the wing-back role in Wenger’s new 3-4-2-1 formation next season.
So it seems Gibbs could be heading to Newcastle for around £15m with Kolasinac coming in on a free as his replacement and I think that will be superb business by Arsenal.

Kolasinac is a big upgrade on Gibbs and by keeping hold of Nacho Monreal, it means Arsenal will have a versatile player who’s capable of filling-in at centre-back or in the left wing-back position when needed.
