Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final days of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Karim Benzema…
Arsenal and Liverpool have made shock offers to try and sign £92m-rated Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema before the window slams shut, according to a report in the Mirror.
Benzema has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe since joining Madrid from Lyon back in 2009 as he’s scored 181 goals to help the club win three Champions League’s, two La Liga’s and a host of other domestic cups.
However, the French international’s future has come under scrutiny in recent weeks as he had one of the worst goal-scoring season’s of his career last year after finding the net just 11 times in La Liga, despite Madrid storming to the title.
The Spanish giants have also been linked with a number of top strikers this summer including Kylian Mbappe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so it looks as though they are on the look-out for Benzema’s replacement.
Indeed, the Mirror are citing a report from Diario Gol that claims Real president Florentino Perez is keen to cash-in on Benzema for £92m this summer and the player is open to the idea of a new challenge.
A move to the Premier League could be on the cards as the Spanish outlet claims Arsenal and Liverpool have both submitted unspecified offers for the 29-year-old hitman.
Arsene Wenger has been a long-term admirer of Benzema’s and it seems the Gunners boss may have renewed his interest amid on-going speculation linking Alexis Sanchez with a move away from the Emirates.
However, the Mirror suggest that Liverpool may be in pole position as the report claims that Perez would prefer to do business with the Merseysiders – although no reason if given as to why.
Jurgen Klopp is seemingly happy with his attack but reports today suggest that Divock Origi could be on the move before the end of the month and Benzema would certainly be a huge upgrade on the Belgian youngster.
The newspaper doesn’t give any indication as to how much Arsenal and Liverpool have supposedly offered or if it’s close to Madrid’s apparent £92m valuation but it will be interesting to see if anything comes of this over the coming days.

My guess is this is nothing more than paper talk as it’s difficult to see such a huge transfer coming out of nowhere like this with just days to go before the window closes. But I suppose stranger things have happened in football…..
