Wenger Offers Update On Welbeck After Arsenal Star Suffers Injury vs Chelsea

Arsene Wenger has offered an update on Danny Welbeck after the striker was forced off with a suspected groin injury during Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea today.
Welbeck was recalled in attack after being rested for the midweek win over Cologne in the Europa League as he lined-up alongside Alex Iwobi and Alexandre Lacazette at Stamford Bridge.
The England international was performing well and could have opened the scoring after putting a header wide of the post when well placed in the first half.
However, Welbeck was forced off midway through the second period after going down clutching his groin and he limped off to be replaced by Olivier Giroud in the 73rd minute.
Wenger has now confirmed to reporters at his post-match press conference that the 26-year-old has picked up a groin problem and while the Arsenal boss doesn’t know the full extent of the injury yet, he’s described it as ‘not an easy one’.
Wenger said:
Wenger on Welbeck: "He has a groin problem. I don't know how serious it is. It looks a 'good' groin problem – not an easy one."

Arsenal will no doubt be sweating on the results of further examinations as Welbeck has started the new campaign well so it will be a big blow if he’s ruled out for any significant period of time.
The north Londoners secured a well earned point at Chelsea today so Wenger will be looking to build on that display during games against Doncaster, West Brom, Bate Borisov and Brighton before the international break.
