Man Utd Team News: Trio To Miss Southampton Trip As Mourinho Offers Pogba Update
Jose Mourinho has offered an update on Paul Pogba as Manchester United continue to be without three key players for their trip to Southampton.
Manchester United will look to maintain their excellent start to the new season when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Jose Mourinho has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.
The United boss offered a brief update on Paul Pogba’s situation and Mourinho insists he still has no idea when the midfielder will be available for selection again.
Pogba suffered a hamstring injury during the early stages of United’s Champions League win over FC Basel earlier this month and has sat out the subsequent games against Everton and Burton.
Mourinho has already dismissed reports in the media that suggested the French international could be facing up to 12 weeks on the sidelines but the United boss claims he isn’t counting the days until Pogba is available again.
With the likes of Nemanja Matic, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera all options in central midfield, Mourinho believes he has enough cover to cope in Pogba’s absence.
Mourinho told ManUtd.com:
“I have no idea when he [Pogba] will be back, no idea, but again, this is a great opportunity for other players to play and I trust them all. So I’m not going to cry or be counting the days until Pogba comes back. When he comes back, welcome, but until then I trust my people.”
Pogba’s continued absence means United will once again be without three players this weekend with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo continuing their rehabilitation from serious knee injuries.
