Boss Hints Liverpool Could Hijack Arsenal’s Deal For £45m Brazilian Star
Bordeaux manager Jocelyn Gourvennec has hinted Liverpool could be looking to hijack Arsenal’s proposed £45m deal to sign Malcom this summer.
The January transfer window is now open so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, the latest on Malcom…
Bordeaux manager Jocelyn Gourvennec has hinted Liverpool could be looking to hijack Arsenal’s proposed £45m deal to sign Malcom this summer, according to quotes in the Metro.
Malcom has developed in to one of the most exciting young talents in French football since joining Bordeaux two years ago and he’s pushing to be in the Brazil squad for this summer’s World Cup finals.
The 20-year-old has scored seven goals and provided four assists in his 17 Ligue 1 games so far this season and his potential has reportedly caught the eye of Arsene Wenger.
The Arsenal manager is in the market for attacking reinforcements with Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott set to leave this month and Malcom has emerged as a prime target.
The Guardian claim that the Gunners discussed personal terms with Malcom’s representatives in France over the weekend as the north Londoners closed-in on a deal that could be worth £45m.
Malcom’s agent, Fernando Garcia, has been fuelling the speculation after ‘liking’ messages on social media suggesting that the attacker is set for a move to the Emirates this month.
However, Bordeaux boss Gourvennec has claimed that Arsenal aren’t the only club in the running to sign the player and hinted that Liverpool could be ready to hijack any deal to sign Malcom.
When quizzed about reports suggesting Malcom was heading for England, Gourvennec is quoted as saying by the Metro:
‘I can’t deny that he’s being followed by a lot of people. With Malcom, I go from day-to-day.
‘He’s committed. He’s a bit, like he was in the summer…I wouldn’t say he has been disturbed by it, that’s a bit strong, he’s not disturbed, but he is asking questions.
‘He’s asking himself what’s the best thing for him, for his future. That’s logical. If he’s asking questions and he still manages to make assists or score goals, it’ll be fine.’
‘If Liverpool want you to work for them tomorrow, you’d go. I’m a coach, I’d like to be able to count on Malcom, Malcom has to help us.
‘There is one person who decides in this, that’s the majority shareholder. He talked about this at the weekend, but football remains football.’
Liverpool were linked with Malcom earlier this month after Philippe Coutinho sealed his move to Barcelona but it remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp has stepped-up his interest behind the scenes.
There has been a lot of speculation flying around so it’s difficult to know exactly what’s going on but Malcom would be an excellent signing for any Premier League club if they could get a deal agreed for his signature.

The Brazilian is predominantly a right winger but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking midfield positions and has pace to burn so I’d love to see him plying his trade here in England.
