Arsene Wenger has offered an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and insists the club aren’t close to striking a deal with Borussia Dortmund.
Aubameyang has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this month after Arsene Wenger identified him as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez following his move to Man Utd.
We’ve stepped-up our pursuit over the past few days with Ivan Gazidis and Sven Mislintat snapped in Dortmund on Sunday where they reportedly held talks with the Bundesliga outfit.
The Telegraph reported recently that our opening £44m offer was rejected by Dortmund but the Mirror suggest a deal could eventually be reached at around £52m.
The German club have also enquired about taking Olivier Giroud on loan as part of the deal but Wenger insists Arsenal are not close to finding an agreement with Dortmund over the signing of Aubameyang and suggests we have alternative options in mind.
The Frenchman is quoted by the Mirror as saying at his press conference this morning:
“Confident or not confident, I don’t know. We are not close to a deal for Aubameyang with Dortmund or anybody else.
“He is one of our possible movements but there are others.”
I’m sure this is just Wenger putting a bit of pressure on Dortmund to lower their demands as Aubameyang is desperate to leave and they know they have to sell this month.
Further talks are expected to take place today and Dortmund boss Peter Stoger said last night that they wanted the negotiations finalised within the next 24-48 hours so it’s going to be a pivotal couple of days.

Let’s hope we can find an agreement as Aubameyang would be a sensational signing and he’d be the ideal player to combine with old team mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan after he completed his switch to the Emirates last night.
