Liverpool Team News: Klopp Confirms Triple Injury Boost But Duo Ruled Out Of FA Cup Tie
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a triple injury boost but two other players have been ruled out of Liverpool’s FA Cup clash with West Brom
Liverpool will be looking to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup when they take on West Brom at Anfield on Saturday evening.
Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s offered an extensive team news update ahead of the game.
The Reds boss has confirmed a triple injury boost with Jordan Henderson, Alberto Moreno and Dejan Lovren all back in contention this weekend after regaining full fitness this week.
Henderson has been out with a hamstring injury for the past month while Moreno has also been on the sidelines for over six weeks due to an ankle injury that he sustained in early December.
Lovren missed the defeat at Swansea on Monday night due to illness but all three players are back in full training and available for selection against the Baggies tomorrow.
Simon Mignolet is set to return in goal after losing his first team place to Loris Karius while Daniel Sturridge is still in contention despite reports linking him with a move away from Anfield this month.
However, Adam Lallana has been ruled out of the game this weekend after picking up a minor muscle injury while James Milner is also expected to miss out after picking up a dead leg in training.
Ragnar Klavan has recently recovered from illness but Klopp’s revealed the centre-back is now sidelined with a muscle issue so he’ll remain on the sidelines along with Nathaniel Clyne – who’s still recovering from a serious back injury.
Klopp told the Liverpool Echo:
“Simon Mignolet will play. The reason is, and I don’t want to make it more confusing, I really think that all goalkeepers need rhythm. Danny Ward will play for the U23s.
“Lallana unfortunately has a little issue which keeps him, I’m pretty sure, out of the next game. It’s not a big one, but when you have a long injury, it needs time to adapt again to the intensity. We tried but it didn’t work so well.
“It’s a little tear, muscle in the leg. It’s not a big one, but it’s enough.
“Milly got a dead leg in training, and if Milly says it’s too painful to train, you can imagine how painful it must be!
“We have to wait a bit. Clyney is on a good way but not back in team training. Alberto and Henderson are back. Raggy is out, he was really ill, he lost a few kilos – unbelievable, now he has a little muscle injury. Not available for tomorrow, but Dejan is back. It’s that time of year!”
Klopp is expected to rotate his squad with Danny Ings pushing to make his first start since 2015 while the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominic Solanke are also hoping for recalls.
