Liverpool will be looking to cement their position in the top four when they take on Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds responded to consecutive defeats to Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion with an impressive 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.

The Merseysiders have slipped six points adrift of second-placed Man Utd following their win today but a win tomorrow would not only cut the gap on them but also move Jurgen Klopp’s side five points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham.

However, a Spurs victory at Anfield would see them leapfrog Liverpool while a positive result for Chelsea at Watford on Monday would then see the Reds drop out of the top four so this game is huge in terms of Champions League qualification.

Tottenham were impressive in midweek as they beat Manchester United 2-0 at Wembley so Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to build some momentum during what’s going to be a pivotal few weeks in their season.

Team news

Liverpool are set to recall Virgil van Dijk to the starting eleven after he was rested in midweek while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also pushing for a recall in midfield.

Adam Lallana has returned to training after recovering from a thigh problem but this game may come too soon while Nathaniel Clyne is still nursing a back injury.

Tottenham are ready to welcome Serge Aurier back in to the squad after he overcame a calf injury while Harry Winks is also in contention after recovering from an ankle problem.

Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose are in full training after serious injuries but it remains to be seen whether they’re in contention yet. Deadline day signing Lucas Moura only started to train with his new team mates today so he’s unlikely to feature tomorrow.
