Liverpool Team News: Klopp Confirms Triple Fitness Boost Ahead Of Southampton Trip
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a triple fitness boost ahead of Liverpool’s trip to the south coast to take on Southampton this weekend.
Liverpool will be desperate to cement their place in the top four with a win when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided an update on the latest team and injury news ahead of the game.
The Reds boss revealed some positive news on Joe Gomez as the defender is back in light training after missing the 2-2 draw with Tottenham last weekend with a knee injury.
The youngster is unlikely to make the trip to the south coast this weekend but Gomez should be back in contention for next weeks Champions League last 16 clash with Porto.
Klopp also confirmed that Ragnar Klavan has been able to take part in full training for the last two days after missing the last two matches with a thigh strain so the defender could be back in the squad on Sunday.
There was also positive news on Alberto Moreno as the left-back is also back in full training following a minor knock so the Spanish international could be in the squad to face Southampton.
Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:
“He [Gomez] was running outside but not with the team but that means he’s close. I don’t think he has a chance for Sunday if they don’t come in and say the running was the good! We can have him this afternoon as well but then Porto, there’s a chance. We will see.”
“Raggy trained the last two days. Alberto needed only two days again and looked good yesterday. That’s it – nothing else at the moment.”
Adam Lallana could return to the squad after recovering from a thigh problem so the only other fitness concern for Liverpool is Nathaniel Clyne as the full-back is still working his way back to full fitness from a back injury.
Liverpool head in to the weekend action sitting third in the table but with fifth-placed Tottenham just two points behind, Klopp will want to cement their position with a win over Southampton on Sunday.
