Liverpool Team News: Duo Ruled Out Of Porto Clash + Klopp Offers Update On Salah
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed two of his squad will miss Liverpool’s clash with Porto tomorrow while he also gave the latest on Mo Salah’s chances of starting
Liverpool will look to finish the job and book their place in the quarter finals of the Champions League when Porto arrive at Anfield tomorrow night.
Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided a team news and injury update ahead of the game.
The Reds boss confirmed that Georginio Wijnaldum and Ben Woodburn will not be available for the game on Tuesday night having failed to recover from illness.
The duo have missed Liverpool’s last two Premier League matches due to a virus and although they have each returned to light training, neither player will be in contention to face Porto.
Klopp says Woodburn looks to have lost some weight and Wijnaldum is yet to return to full training having only recently undertaken some light running so the Champions League tie comes too soon for them.
The German coach told Liverpoolfc.com:
“Ben trained yesterday but he looked three kilos less, to be honest,”
“Gini still hasn’t trained with the team. He had a little bit of an athletic programme, a little bit of running – not too much.
“They were really out for a few days. They are coming back but it will be too early for both of them.”
Liverpool head in to the game holding a commanding 5-0 lead following their stunning first leg victory in Portugal so Klopp is expected to rest some of his key players tomorrow night.
One player who could be given a breather is Mohamed Salah and although Klopp refused to confirm whether his in-form attacker would start against Porto, he did reveal he’ll make a few changes to his team.
Klopp on Salah involvement: "I haven't made decision so far. We don't rotate to avoid something, we just use the players who are in the best shape. We won't rest players but maybe we will make 1, 2 or 3 changes."

Liverpool are battling with Manchester United to finish second in the Premier League and they visit Old Trafford on Saturday so I’d expect Klopp to seriously consider resting the likes of Salah, Firmino and perhaps Virgil van Dijk tomorrow.
