Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has expressed is devastation after being ruled out for the rest of the season and the World Cup with a knee injury.
Oxlade-Chamberlain sustained the injury while tackling Aleksandar Kolarov in the 18th minute during Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final first leg clash with AS Roma at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The 24-year-old needed lengthy treatment from the Liverpool medical team before eventually being stretchered off and replaced by Georginio Wijnaldum.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed after the game that the initial signs didn’t look good and it was likely that Oxlade-Chamberlain was facing an extended spell on the sidelines.
Those fears have now been realised as a statement on Liverpoolfc.com this evening confirmed the former Arsenal star has suffered knee ligament damage and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was fully expected to have been a key part of Gareth Southgate’s England plans this summer but the midfielder has also been ruled out of the World Cup finals.
The Ox has now taken to social media to react to the news and he’s admitted he’s ‘absolutely devastated’ to have picked up such a serious injury at this stage of the season.
However, the midfielder went on to say his focus now is to get behind his team mates for the rest of the campaign and make sure he recovers as quickly as possible.
