Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane came off the bench to secure Liverpool a 2-1 comeback victory over Manchester City in the International Champions Cup in New Jersey last night.
After a goalless first half, City opened the scoring shortly after the break when Leroy Sane drove through the Liverpool defence before firing low in to the bottom corner for 1-0 in the 57th minute.
That goal convinced Jurgen Klopp to introduce his talisman as Salah replaced youngster Curtis Jones and wasted no time in picking up where he left off from last season as he headed home the equaliser just 1 minute after coming off the bench.
The Egyptian international scored 44 goals in all competitions for Liverpool last season and it seems he hasn’t lost his goal-scoring touch over the summer after an impressive run-out at the MetLife Stadium that also saw him have a shot cleared off the line and he hit the bar.
The Reds snatched all three points as they were awarded a stoppage time penalty after Dominic Solanke was barged over in the area and Mane – who was introduced at half-time – made no mistake from the spot to seal a 2-1 victory.
Liverpool will continue their pre-season preparations against Manchester United on Saturday night while City will take on Bayern Munich in the International Champions Cup.
