Early Liverpool Team News: Trio Pushing For Recall As Klopp Admits Need To Rotate
Xhedran Shaqiri, Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip are pushing for recalls as Jurgen Klopp prepares to rotate for Liverpool’s trip to Leicester
The likes of Xhedran Shaqiri, Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip are pushing for recalls as Jurgen Klopp prepares to rotate for Liverpool’s trip to Leicester this weekend, according to the Mirror.
The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League table after enjoying the perfect start to the new campaign with Liverpool securing three consecutive victories over West Ham, Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion without conceding a single goal.
However, Saturday’s narrow 1-0 win over Brighton was far from convincing. Mohamed Salah looked to be putting Liverpool on course to another comfortable victory after opening the scoring in the first half with a neat finish.
However, the hosts failed to push on and had Alisson Becker to thank for securing all three points with the Brazilian goalkeeper making a couple of excellent saves in the second half to keep the scoreline at 1-0.
Klopp admitted after the game that his side had ‘lost the plot’ in the second half and hinted that he’s ready to rotate his starting eleven for the trip to Leicester on Saturday after naming an unchanged line-up for the first three fixtures.
Klopp is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“I know how it looks at the moment – we played three times now with the same line-up. Leicester we will see what we can do and then hopefully they all come back healthy (from the international break).
“But we have to use all of them [the squad] and we will do. Then the games are really coming, it is an intense time and it looks like ‘How can you leave out him or him or him?’.
“Don’t forget Divock Origi and Dom Solanke trained really, really good and are not in the squad (on Saturday). That is really hard but they will be used as well and they will have a part to play.”
Summer signing Shaqiri is one player who is knocking at the door and the Switzerland international will be hoping to make his full debut this weekend after impressing off the bench so far this campaign.
Henderson has also had to make-do with coming off the bench this season so the Liverpool captain could be handed his first start at the King Power with James Milner possibly given a breather.
Matip returned to full fitness earlier this month after recovering from a niggling hip injury and is pushing to start against the Foxes but Klopp will have to decide whether to rest Joe Gomez following his impressive start to the new campaign.
Fabinho – who arrived from Monaco this summer – has failed to make the matchday squad for the last two games as Klopp looks to give him plenty of time to adapt to life in England but the South American will be hoping for a recall this weekend.
Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana have also only seen limited playing time so far this season so the England duo will be desperate to take their chance if Klopp decides to mix things up over the coming weeks.
