Emery Offers Update After Arsenal Star Picks-Up Injury During Win Over Vorskla

Unai Emery has offered an update on Lucas Torreira after the midfielder picked-up a knee injury during Arsenal’s Europa League win over Vorskla on Thursday night.
Torreira was handed his full debut against the Ukrainian minnows after making some impressive cameo appearances off the bench during the opening weeks of the Premier League season following his £26m summer move from Sampdoria.
The Uruguayan international was heavily involved against Vorskla as he dictated play from the deep-lying midfield role and helped Arsenal ease in to a commanding 3-0 lead thanks to a Danny Welbeck header and a sublime double from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, Torreira picked-up a knee problem late in the first half after falling awkwardly while challenging for the ball. He soldiered on after receiving some treatment but Emery decided to take him off shortly after we scored the third goal in the 57th minute.
The South American was seen with an ice pack on his knee while sitting on the bench during the remainder of the match sparking concern that the midfielder may be facing some time on the sidelines.
However, Emery has played down those fears after telling reporters after the game that he hopes Torreira will be available for selection for the visit of Everton to the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
Emery told Arsenal.com:
on whether Lucas Torreira is okay or if he has a knock on his knee…
Each match we play, I am responsible for the group and for Torreira also, today I think it is better [for Lucas] to leave the match. I hope that tomorrow and Saturday, he will be okay for Sunday.
It will be a big disappointment if Torreira was ruled out with this knee injury as he must surely be on the verge of becoming a regular starter. It can’t be a coincidence that we were cruising at 3-0 when he left the field last night before conceding two late goals to see the match end 4-2.
I think it’s unlikely he’ll start against Everton after picking up this knock but Torreira will hopefully be fit enough to line-up against Brentford in the League Cup next Wednesday.
