Will Arsenal Regret Not Spending During The Transfer Window?
The January transfer window has now come and passed with no new additions to the squad. While this has been expected given the boss’s statements over the past week or so, I was still hoping that he would change his mind and add to the squad, especially in the defensive area. I am still very confident that he knows what he is doing and will no question his wisdom. However, there is a little tingle sensation at the back on my head that says we might regret this decision.
As I said previously, this situation is very similar to what we had last year. Arsene was burnt badly when he did not add to the squad which ultimately cost us the season. We are a team well know to have injury frailties so by not adding to the squad, he is basically gambling that we do not suffer the same injury curse as we did last year.I am not a gambling man but if I were, I am sure I will be able to get good odds for us not to have the same meltdown again due to injuries.
I am happy that he is not the kind of manager to go and spend £35million pounds for a player like Andy Carroll but Arsene has to loosen the purse strings once in a while for a established player. Everybody is saying that this month is a big month for us but that’s wrong. Every month till the end of the season is big now.
It is no point we do well this month and win all our matches only to suffered injuries and have a major blip next month, similar to the 2008 season. We need to ensure that we have enough personnel to last the gruelling challenge for all the honours that we are chasing. Currently, we have strength in depth, but with Nasri, Vermaelen, Squillaci, Denilson and now Song out, we cannot afford any more injuries to the team as we move further into the second part of the season.
