Chelsea vs Man Utd Preview | Latest Team News | Expected Line-Ups | Predicted Score
Here is our match preview ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Manchester United including team news, expected line-ups and predicted score
Premier League football returns with a bang as Chelsea entertain Manchester United in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have enjoyed an excellent start to the new season as they sit joint top of the table on 20 points from their opening eight league games so the west Londoners will be keen to keep the pressure on Manchester City and Liverpool with a win tomorrow.
Maurizio Sarri’s side went in to the international break in fine form having thrashed Southampton 3-0 at St Mary’s Stadium but they’ll be expecting a much stiffer test against Manchester United this weekend.
Jose Mourinho eased the pressure on his shoulders after United staged a second half fight-back to beat Newcastle United 3-2 in dramatic style at Old Trafford two weeks ago so it seems his job is safe for the time being.
However, United sit eighth in the Premier League table after enduring one of their worst starts to a league campaign so Mourinho will be desperate to pick up a positive result against his former side tomorrow afternoon.
Team news
Chelsea are set to be without Ross Barkley after he picked up a knock while playing for England in midweek while Ethan Ampadu is also out with a knee problem sustained playing for Wales.
However, Antonio Rudiger is expected to recover from a groin problem while Mateo Kovacic is also set to return to the starting eleven after overcoming a minor knock.
Man Utd have injury problems to deal with as Marouane Fellaini wasn’t among the squad that travelled to London today after picking up a knock during the international break while Diogo Dalot and Scott McTominay also miss out.
There was no sign of Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard or Antonio Valencia while Alexis Sanchez also wasn’t on the train that left Manchester earlier today – although he could be in London already having only arrived back at Heathrow on Thursday night.
Luke Shaw has recovered from a knock so he should start at left-back while Nemanja Matic is expected to feature despite picking up an ankle injury while away with Serbia.
Expected Line-Ups
Predicted Score
Chelsea 2-1 Man Utd: The Blues have lost just one of their last 16 home league games against United while the Red Devils have lost three of their last six matches on the road. Chelsea have been playing well this season while Man Utd have been woeful at times and seem to have lost their way under Mourinho so I think the hosts will edge this one.
