Duo Ruled Out As Klopp Makes 3 Changes | Expected Liverpool Line-Up vs Man Utd

Liverpool will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the table with a win when Manchester United visit Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Here is the team we think Jurgen Klopp will select:

Goalkeeper: Alisson proved once again why he’s now considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world after making a vital late save against Napoli to help book Liverpool’s place in the knockout stages of the Champions League. The Brazilian international is certain to keep his place on Sunday and it could be another big test for him against Man Utd.

Defence: Liverpool have problems in defence as Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out after picking up a foot injury against Napoli while Joe Gomez remains on the sidelines with a fractured leg. Nathaniel Clyne is available again but he’s barely featured under Klopp this season and isn’t 100% match fit so I think we’ll see James Milner deployed at right-back as he was excellent in that role against Bournemouth last weekend.

The Reds have issues in the middle as well after Joel Matip joined Gomez on the sidelines having broken his collarbone during the closing stages on Tuesday night. Dejan Lovren is expected to be recalled alongside Virgil van Dijk but any injury to one of those two against United will leave Klopp low on options. Andrew Robertson should once again start at left-back ahead of Alberto Moreno.

Midfield: Liverpool could freshen things up in midfield with Naby Keita pushing for a recall and Georginio Wijnaldum may drop to the bench after giving a lot in midweek. Milner’s move to right-back could see Klopp switch formation slightly in to a 4-2-3-1 which has been deployed at times this season.

Fabinho will hope to feature after missing out recently but I think Klopp will opt for the tenacity of Jordan Henderson in what is expected to be a fiercely competitive game against Manchester United.

Attack: The change in system may see Xherdan Shaqiri given a recall in attack as he will have felt unfortunate not to start against Napoli having been in fine form lately. Sadio Mane made a successful return on Tuesday night after recovering from a foot injury and he could keep his place despite missing some excellent chances against Napoli.

Mohamed Salah has played in a more central role when Klopp’s deployed a 4-2-3-1 so we may see the Egyptian international through the middle against Manchester United with Roberto Firmino dropping back in to an attacking midfield position.

That means the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Divock Origi will have to make do with places on the bench against Man Utd.
