Odds Slashed For Pepe Reina To Join Man Utd
Liverpool Keeper Pepe Reina has refused to rule out a summer move to Old Trafford as rumours circulate as to who will replace Edwin Van Der Sar. Reina has always been seen as an outside bet to replace United’s number 1 but the odds on what would be an astonishing transfer taking place have been slashed to 3/1.
It is hard to predict whether such a move could go through with the fierce rivalry between the sides and the way in which the Gabriel Heinze affair unfolded a few years ago with United refusing to sell to Liverpool.
The scousers were quick to off-load star striker Fernando Torres to rivals Chelsea when it became clear the player no longer wanted to be at the club. If United were to put in a bid of £20 million it would be interesting to see if Dalglish would take the money and reinvest it in his squad.
Reina was interviewed by Spanish radio station Ondo Sera and said:
“Yes, well Van der Sar will hang up his gloves in the summer so of course they are looking. I can’t do anything. I can’t say anything logically as I have a contract with Liverpool.
“Of course one likes to fight for titles and be in a team that does that. We always fought to be in the Champions League and try to win the title. But unfortunately it hasn’t been the case in the last couple of years.”
“I won’t lie, I want to play in the Champions League and challenge for titles.”
Will Reina be the next one of Rafa’s signings to head for the exit door?
