Arsenal team news: Emery confirms huge double injury boost ahead of Man City

Unai Emery has confirmed a huge double injury boost ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. See the latest here

Arsenal will be looking to cement their position in the top four with a positive result against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the game, Unai Emery has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided a full team news and injury update including the latest on a number of his first team regulars.

The Arsenal boss confirmed a big boost as it sounds like Laurent Koscielny is set to be fit to face City after making a swift recovery from a facial injury. It was feared the defender had broken his jaw during the FA Cup defeat to Man Utd and he missed the win over Cardiff in midweek.

However, tests confirmed Koscielny only suffered bruising and the Frenchman has been able to train this week so Emery is positive he’ll be in contention for the trip to Manchester on Sunday.

In a double boost, the Arsenal boss also confirmed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is available again after recovering from a foot injury that’s kept him on the sidelines since December but Ainsley Maitland-Niles will face a late fitness test after missing the Cardiff game with minor knee problem.

Emery also provided an update after Hector Bellerin underwent surgery on his knee ligament injury this week and the right-back is facing between 6-8 weeks on the sidelines.

Arsenal managed to sign Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona yesterday and Emery says he has confidence in the midfielder to perform if he’s thrown straight in to the starting eleven on Sunday.

Emery is quoted as saying by Football London:

On Bellerin’s surgery and when he could be back
It’s a big injury, it’s a long time. This season is impossible. The important thing is to be calm. Usually, this injury is 6/8 months.

Emery on Koscielny
He trained today well, we are positive with him.

On Maitland-Niles
Today he didn’t train, we look tomorrow. Mkhitaryan trained today as normal. He is with us now.

On starting Suarez against City
I am thinking about all the players, If he starts, I have confidence in him.

Arsenal will continue to be without Sokratis against Man City as the defender is still out with an ankle injury so he remains on the sidelines along with long-term absentees Rob Holding and Danny Welbeck.
