Liverpool team news: Klopp confirms duo will be fit to face Tottenham
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed two Liverpool players will be fit to return against Tottenham later this month. See full details here.
Liverpool will be desperate to climb back to the top of the table with a win when they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference today and he’s provided a full team news and injury update including the latest on the fitness of Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The Liverpool boss confirmed a blow with the news that Henderson will miss the trip to the capital this weekend after suffering an ankle injury during the Champions League victory over Bayern Munich in midweek.
Henderson was forced off during the early stages of the 3-1 win at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night and Klopp has ruled him out of the Fulham game on Sunday. However, the Liverpool boss is confident the midfielder will be available to face Tottenham after the international break.
Keita missed the trip to Germany in midweek due to a minor knock and Klopp has confirmed the Guinean international will need to be assessed at training before his availability against Fulham is determined.
Oxlade-Chamberlain made his long-awaited comeback from a serious knee ligament injury with a run out for the Liverpool U23’s earlier this month and he’s been stepping-up his workload in training.
Klopp has confirmed that this weekend’s trip to Fulham will come too soon for Oxlade-Chamberlain but the former Arsenal midfielder should be back in contention for first team duty when they welcome Tottenham to Anfield after the international break.
Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:
“With Hendo, we made further assessment and we know now that it’s serious enough probably to rule him out for the weekend and the international break will be long enough hopefully to bring him back. It’s a little one with the ankle, how it looked in the first place. It was the best scan we could get, I would say, but still not good enough. It’s not good but OK,”
“Naby, we have to see if he can train today. The boys come in a bit later today. [He had] a couple of checks – it was positive until now but we have to see if it stays positive when he goes outside.
“Oxlade, I heard nothing new about it so there’s no rush now. Of course not for the weekend anyway, but in general after international break he will be 100 per cent fit.”
It will be a huge boost for Liverpool to have Oxlade-Chamberlain and Henderson available for a massive clash with Tottenham later this month but they have three points to worry about first this weekend.
Liverpool currently sit one point behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League table but with Pep Guardiola’s men playing in the FA Cup this weekend, the Reds have the perfect opportunity to move two points clear at the top with a win over Fulham on Sunday.
