Liverpool will be desperate to climb back to the top of the table with a win when they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon. Here is the team we think Jurgen Klopp will select:
Goalkeeper: I don’t think there is too much debate over who’ll start in goal as Alisson is almost certain to keep his place between the sticks with Simon Mignolet once again on the bench.
Defence: Trent Alexander-Arnold was passed fit to start against Bayern Munich in midweek after recovering from a minor knock that he sustained against Burnley last week so the youngster should retain his place at right-back this weekend. Andrew Robertson is also expected to keep his place in the Liverpool defence as he’s firmly established himself as Klopp’s number one left-back.
Virgil van Dijk put-in another imperious performance against Bayern and he’ll lead the Liverpool back four once again on Sunday but Klopp might be tempted to recall Dejan Lovren alongside him. The Croatian international has been on the bench for the last two games after recovering from a hamstring injury so he could do with some minutes. Those fans betting online will notice Liverpool are the red hot favourites to win this game so so Klopp might see this as a good opportunity to bring Lovren back in to action so Joel Matip could be given a rest.
Midfield: Liverpool will assess the fitness of Naby Keita after the midfielder missed the trip to Germany in midweek due to a minor injury but the Guinean international is unlikely to be rushed back into the starting eleven.
The Reds have been dealt a blow as Jordan Henderson has been ruled out of the trip to Fulham after picking up an ankle injury in Munich but Klopp is hoping the midfielder will be available after the international break.
Georginio Wijnaldum should keep his place in the middle of the park while Fabinho is expected to be recalled after being surprisingly left on the bench against Bayern Munich. James Milner did a great job in the Champions League game but Adam Lallana is pushing for a recall after his excellent outing against Burnley last weekend.
Attack: Liverpool will be desperate to come away with three points from Craven Cottage as they won’t want to pass-up this opportunity to go back to the top of the league so I don’t see Klopp resting any of his big-guns.
Therefore, Roberto Firmino is expected to lead the line up front once again while Mohamed Salah should continue alongside the South American in the Liverpool attack.
Sadio Mane continued his sensational form with a superb goal against Bayern and no doubt he’ll join Firmino and Salah in the front three once again against the Cottagers on Sunday.
That means the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi will have to make do with places on the bench. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is edging closer to making his comeback and Klopp is hopeful the midfielder will be available for selection after the international break.
Liverpool are fully expected to take home the three points with the bookies offering odds of around 1/4 on the title challengers to see-off relegation threatened Fulham with ease, so the likes of Firmino, Salah and Mane should be confident of getting on the score-sheet in west London.
Here is how I think Liverpool will line up:
