Arsenal are ready to try and hijack Tottenham’s attempts to sign Dani Ceballos by agreeing to meet Real Madrid’s £44.6m asking price for the talented midfielder, according to reports in Spain via TeamTalk.
Ceballos earned a dream move from Real Betis to Madrid after starring at the 2017 European U21 Championships but the youngster has struggled to establish himself as a regular under Zinedine Zidane.
The 22-year-old started just 13 La Liga games last season and featured in just 1 of Madrid’s last 9 matches leading to speculation he’ll be on the move this summer in search of regular first team football.
TeamTalk are citing a report from AS that claims Ceballos is still hoping to turn things around at the Bernabeu but he doesn’t feature in Zidane’s first team plans so Madrid are ready to cash-in if they receive an offer worth at least £44.6m [€50m] to help balance the books after spending big on several new players.
Tottenham have been strongly linked with Ceballos in recent weeks and the Spanish publication says they’ve already held talks with Madrid about a potential deal as Mauricio Pochettino looks to replace Christian Eriksen – who’s indicated he wants a new challenge this summer.
However, it looks like Arsenal could be ready to hijack Tottenham’s proposed move as AS, via TeamTalk, claim the Gunners are the club ready to meet Madrid’s asking price after joining the race to sign Ceballos.
Unai Emery needs to strengthen his squad this summer and a new creative central midfielder is needed as Aaron Ramsey is joining Juventus on a free transfer while the futures of Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are in doubt.
Emery has only been given a tight budget to work from this summer so if Arsenal are willing to spend around £45m on Ceballos, then it looks like the north Londoners plan to sell some of their current squad to help fund their other transfer business.

Ceballos would be an excellent signing for Arsenal, or indeed Tottenham, if either club could lure him to England but the AS report claims Madrid president Florentio Perez may demand a buy-back clause is inserted into any deal.
