Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, the latest on Liverpool’s interest in Junior Firpo…
Liverpool are plotting a formal offer for Real Betis defender Junior Firpo as Jurgen Klopp looks to fend off competition from the likes of Barcelona for the £45m-rated full-back, according to reports via TeamTalk.
Klopp is only expected to make subtle changes to his Champions League winning squad this summer but he knows he needs to strengthen in a couple of key areas if Liverpool are to keep their players fresh in order to compete on all fronts next season.
The Reds have already signed highly-rated youngster Sepp van den Berg from Zwolle but Klopp is believed to be in the market for a new left-back after seeing Alberto Moreno join Villarreal on a free transfer after running down his contract.
Andrew Robertson is Liverpool’s first choice left-back and his position in Klopp’s starting eleven is secure as he’s been a sensational signing since arriving from Hull City but a top class back-up is needed as the German coach needs options all over the pitch next year.
Firpo has been touted as a target throughout the summer and TeamTalk are citing a report from Diario de Sevilla (via Sport Witness) that claims Liverpool are showing a keen interest in signing the Spanish U21 international.
The report says Real Betis have been contacted by a number of European clubs with Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City all mentioned as suitors but it’s the Reds who’re reportedly leading the race.
TeamTalk says Liverpool are now plotting a formal opening offer for Firpo and while he has a release clause worth £45m [€50m] in his contract, it’s suggested in the report that the Merseysiders could test the water with a lower bid of around £27m [€30m].
It remains to be seen whether such an offer would be enough to secure a deal but Firpo would be an excellent signing if Liverpool could lure him to Anfield as he’s one of the most highly-rated young full-backs in Europe.

The 22-year-old has become a key player for Real Betis since coming through their youth ranks and he’d provide top class competition for Robertson if Liverpool were able to secure a deal this summer.
