Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing Philippe Coutinho as the Brazilian attacker contemplates a £110m move away from Barcelona
We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Liverpool and Man Utd are linked with Philippe Coutinho…
Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing Philippe Coutinho as the Brazilian attacker contemplates a potential £110m move away from Barcelona this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Coutinho has struggled to reproduce the kind of form he showed on a weekly basis during an excellent five-year spell with Liverpool that earned him a big-money move to Barcelona in January 2018.
The Brazilian international was booed by sections of his own fans at times last season following a string of poor displays and his place in Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven is under serious threat following the arrival of Antoine Greizmann this summer.
Barca are also being linked with a blockbuster move for Neymar and Coutinho has been tipped for a move away from the Nou Camp as they look to make room for the Paris Saint-Germain superstar.
The 27-year-old has constantly been linked with a move back to the Premier League with Le10Sport reporting back in June that Liverpool and Manchester United were among the clubs keen on bringing Coutinho back to England.
The rumours died down in recent weeks, however, Mundo Deportivo have reignited the speculation as they claim today that Liverpool and United remain interested in signing Coutinho this summer.
The Spanish publication says the South American is willing to move and favours a return to the Premier League over a possible switch to PSG as part of any deal for Neymar but no formal offers have been put on the table as yet.
As things stand, Coutinho could stay at Barcelona for another season but Mundo Deportivo says the Catalan giants are ready and willing to do business if the likes of Liverpool or Man Utd meets their £110m [€120m] asking price.
Jurgen Klopp recently distanced himself from a reunion with Coutinho but the Liverpool boss is being tipped to make a late move for an attacking midfielder during the closing stages of the window and the Brazilian would provide top class competition for the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.
Man Utd are also being linked with a number of attacking midfielders as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to further strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign and Coutinho would be a major coup if they could somehow lure him to Old Trafford despite his history with arch rivals Liverpool.

However, despite these reports, I still think it’s extremely unlikely that Coutinho will end up joining Liverpool or United so a move to PSG as part of the Neymar deal seems the most realistic option if he does leave Barca this summer.
