Huge double fitness boost for Liverpool as key duo set to start against Man Utd
Liverpool have been handed a major double fitness boost as Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah are expected to start against Manchester United on Sunday
Liverpool have been handed a major double fitness boost as Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah are expected to start against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Alisson has been on the sidelines since suffering a serious calf injury during the early stages of Liverpool’s win at Norwich City on the opening weekend of the Premier League season back on August 9.
The Brazilian goalkeeper was given the green light to resume full training earlier this month and has spent time working on his fitness at Liverpool’s Melwood training base during the international break.
Jurgen Klopp has been cautious not to rush Alisson back into action too soon and he’s been under no pressure to do so given the excellent form of stand-in stopper Adrian – who arrived on a free transfer from West Ham in the summer.
However, the Liverpool Echo says Alisson is now back to full fitness and is expected to be recalled by Klopp to start for Liverpool against Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend.
The news outlet also claims Salah is expected to be passed fit to start against United after making a swift recovery from an ankle injury he picked up during the closing stages of Liverpool’s win over Leicester City.
Salah limped off in the final minutes of the dramatic 2-1 victory at Anfield 10 days ago after being on the receiving end of a shocking challenge from Foxes midfielder Hamza Choudhury.
However, scans showed no serious damage with Salah suffering just a minor twisted ankle and the Liverpool Echo says the Egyptian international is due to line-up against Man Utd after making a full recovery.
Having Alisson and Salah available for selection will be a huge double boost to Klopp as Liverpool look to extend their winning run in the Premier League to a record-equalling 18 games with victory at Man Utd on Sunday.
There is also positive news on Roberto Firmino and Fabinho as they will arrive back at Melwood fresh having played their final game for Brazil on Sunday evening while Sadio Mane will also be in good health for Liverpool as he won’t take part in Senegal’s clash with Guinea later this week.
