Liverpool have been handed a major injury boost as Mohamed Salah took part in training ahead of their clash with Arsenal despite concerns over his fitness
Liverpool have been handed a major injury boost as Mohamed Salah took part in training today ahead of Wednesday night’s clash with Arsenal despite concerns over his fitness, according to Sky Sports News.
Salah was forced off during the final stages of Liverpool’s comeback victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon after he aggravated an ankle injury in the 85th minute at Anfield.
The Egyptian international limped off to be replaced by Joe Gomez just minutes after scoring the decisive penalty that earned the Reds a 2-1 win after Jordan Henderson had earlier levelled following Harry Kane’s early opener for Spurs.
Jurgen Klopp said after the game he hoped the Salah issue wasn’t serious but acknowledged the attacker is still struggling to overcome the injury that was originally sustained against Leicester at the start of the month.
Salah was forced to miss the recent draw with Manchester United after suffering an ankle strain following a horror challenge by Foxes midfielder Hamza Choudhury and he aggravated the problem on Sunday.
However, it appears Salah will make a swift recovery as Sky Sports News claim the forward took part in training with the rest of the Liverpool squad on Monday ahead of Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash with Arsenal.
Klopp is expected to make a number of changes to his team against the Gunners so Salah is unlikely to be involved in the League Cup fourth round tie but he should be fit and available for selection for the trip to Aston Villa at the weekend.
In another boost for Liverpool, Sky Sports says Joel Matip was back in light training at Melwood today after the centre-back missed the last three games in all competitions with a knee injury.
The Liverpool medical team will assess Matip over the next 48 hours to see if he’ll be available to face Arsenal but I don’t think Klopp will take any risks with him so Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren could start on Wednesday night as Virgil van Dijk will be rested after suffering a dead leg against Tottenham.
