Arsenal will get back to Premier League action when they take on Wolves at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon. Here is the side Gooner Mac thinks Unai Emery will select for the game:
Goalkeeper: Emi Martinez will have been disappointed to concede five goals during Arsenal’s frustrating 5-5 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday night and he’ll make way for Bernd Leno this weekend.
Defence: Emery will make wholesale changes from the side that played in the Carabao Cup and we shouldn’t expect too many of back four to keep their places after shipping five goals at Anfield.
Sokratis and David Luiz are expected to be recalled in the middle of defence with Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi making way while Kieran Tierney should replace Sead Kolasinac at left-back.
Hector Bellerin came through a solid 90 minutes on Wednesday night but Emery may not want to risk him from the start against Wolves as he’s only recently returned from a lengthy injury so Calum Chambers may be recalled at right-back.
Midfield: All eyes will be on Emery to see if he selects Granit Xhaka on Saturday. The Swiss international has been left ‘devastated’ following his on-field bust-up with the Arsenal fans last weekend so I can’t see him being thrown back into the lions den so soon. I think Emery will let the situation calm down before starting Xhaka again at the Emirates so I’d be shocked to see him at the weekend.
Fortunately Lucas Torreira was in good form against Liverpool so he should start in the holding role for Arsenal on Saturday while Matteo Guendouzi will be recalled after being named on the bench at Anfield. Joe Willock scored a stunner against Liverpool but he’s set to drop out.
Mesut Ozil produced something of a masterclass on his return to the Arsenal starting eleven last night and many fans are calling for him to keep his place against Wolves. I’m not convinced Emery is ready to make Ozil a regular again just yet but the German playmaker should be named on the bench on Saturday with Dani Ceballos starting in midfield.
Attack: Arsenal were excellent going forward against Liverpool but I still expect plenty of changes this weekend with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang certain to be recalled following his rest at Anfield.
Alexandre Lacazette is also in-line to come back into the attack with Bukayo Saka likely to drop out despite his decent showing in the Carabao Cup. Ainley Maitland-Niles is also expected to make way despite getting on the score-sheet versus Liverpool.
Gabriel Martielli continued his superb form in front of goal with another brace last night so he has to be knocking on the door for a regular place soon. However, I expect Nicolas Pepe will still be given the nod this weekend with Martinelli dropping to the bench.
Here is how I think we’ll see Arsenal line-up:
