Arsenal will look to get back to winning ways and boost their top four hopes with a win over Leicester at the King Power on Saturday evening. Here is the side Gooner Mac thinks Unai Emery will select for the game:
Goalkeeper: Emi Martinez kept goal during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Vitoria in the Europa League on Wednesday but he’s set to drop out with Bernd Leno recalled between the sticks.
Defence: Emery went with a back three in Portugal yesterday but it didn’t work as Arsenal struggled to influence things in the middle of the park or create many chances so I expect the manager to revert to a back four this weekend.
Kieran Tierney has hinted he needs a rest after playing the last two matches so Sead Kolasinac is expected to be recalled on Saturday while Hector Bellerin should come in at right-back after not featuring against Vitoria.
Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding are expected to drop out with David Luiz recalled to start alongside Sokratis at the heart of the Arsenal defence. Calum Chambers wasn’t involved in the Europa League but he may have to settle for a place on the bench this weekend.
Midfield: Granit Xhaka has been stripped of the captaincy and hasn’t featured since his bust up with the Arsenal fans two weeks ago so it’s difficult to see him starting against Leicester on Saturday evening.
Dani Ceballos is expected to be ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury against Vitoria on Wednesday. Joe Willock is set to drop to the bench with Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi recalled after being rested in the Europa League.
Attack: We should see wholesale changes in the Arsenal attack as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is certain to be recalled. The newly-appointed captain didn’t travel to Portugal so he’ll be well rested.
Alexandre Lacazette is also expected to come back into the attack after making a substitute appearance against Vitoria and we could see the Frenchman leading the line up front with Aubameyang playing from the left.
Mesut Ozil didn’t travel to Portugal for the Vitoria game after playing in Arsenal’s previous two matches so he could be recalled this weekend with Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka dropping to the bench.
Nicolas Pepe started in the Europa League yesterday but we could see him keep his place on the right wing against Leicester. Reiss Nelson is another option but I think a place on the bench is the best he can hope for.
Here is how I think we’ll see Arsenal line-up:
