Man Utd set for huge injury boost ahead of crunch showdown with Man City
Paul Pogba is closing in on his return to fitness and could be ready to make his comeback during Man Utd’s clash with Man City in early December
Paul Pogba is closing in on his return to fitness and could be ready to make his comeback during Manchester United’s clash with Manchester City in early December, according to reports via the Daily Mail.
Pogba has endured a frustrating campaign so far as a persistent ankle problem has restricted him to making just 6 first team appearances and he hasn’t featured for United since their 1-1 draw with Arsenal on September 30.
The French international has missed Man Utd’s last nine games in all competitions and has spent time in Dubai during his rehabilitation as he bids to overcome the niggling ankle issue.
However, Pogba had his cast removed on Monday after stepping up his recovery in recent weeks and the Daily Mail are citing a report from ESPN that claims the midfielder is now closing-in on a return to action.
The report says Pogba has pencilled-in his comeback against Manchester City next month when United head to the Etihad Stadium for a huge Manchester derby on December 7.
The news will come as a major boost to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Man Utd boss has been having to deal with a lengthy injury list this season so it will be a relief to have one of his key men back in contention soon.
United have struggled for consistency during Pogba’s absence as they are sitting seventh in the Premier League table – nine points adrift of the top four – after winning just four of their 12 games this campaign.
The 26-year-old’s return will give the squad a boost during what will be a hectic period as United face playing 12 games in just 39 days so Solskjaer will be pleased to have Pogba available for selection again.
The United boss has further cause for celebration as ESPN also claim Eric Bailly is ready to return to light training after the international break as he steps-up his recovery from a serious knee injury that he suffered in pre-season.
However, it’s not all positive news as Manchester United are sweating over the fitness of Scott McTominay amid reports he’s facing a month on the sidelines after aggravating an ankle injury against Brighton last weekend.
