Man Utd team news: Solskjaer provides injury update on 4 players ahead of Everton
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an injury update on four players ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Everton on Sunday.
Manchester United get back to Premier League action when they take on Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking after United’s 4-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday night, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided a team news and injury update including the latest on a number of his first team squad.
Jesse Lingard missed the Europa League win last night after suffering a muscle injury during the 2-1 victory over Manchester City last weekend and the midfielder will face a late fitness test before his availability on Sunday is known.
Paul Pogba has been restricted to making just six appearances for Man Utd this season and hasn’t featured since the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in late September due to a niggling ankle injury.
However, it looks as though the Frenchman is closing-in on making his long-awaited comeback as Solskjaer says Pogba is expected to resume full training with the rest of the first team squad next week so he could be back in action before the end of the month.
Eric Bailly is also set to resume full training next week as he looks to return from a serious knee injury while Tim Fosu-Mensah is also on the verge of making his comeback from a long-term knee problem so the injury issues are easing at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer told ManUtd.com:
“I’m not sure about Jesse, but I hope [he can feature]. He wasn’t training today, but we’ll check him on Saturday probably. He’s really come good now; he’s been fit, he’s been training well, so we hope so.
”Next week, Eric [Bailly] will start training, Tim [Fosu-Mensah] will start training, Paul will probably start training with us next week properly. So let’s see.“
Solskjaer is set to make a number of changes to his side against Everton after resting several key players on Thursday night as only Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial retained their places from the win at City.
The likes of David De Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Fred, Scott McTominay, Daniel James and Marcus Rashford didn’t feature against AZ Alkmaar and are expected to be recalled on Sunday.
Manchester United head into the weekend action sitting fifth in the Premier League table following impressive wins over Tottenham and Man City so Solskjaer will want to close the gap on the top four further with another victory over Everton.
