INJURY UPDATE: Szczesny & Djourou Back To Boost Gunners Title Bid
Arsenal have received a major injury boost ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool with the news that both Wojciech Szczesny and Johan Djourou should be fit to play.
The Guardian are reporting that Szczesny is pushing himself to be ready after a scan last week showed positive results. The young pole picked up a dislocated finger during the defeat to Barcelona in March and it was feared he may not play again this season, but manager Arsene Wenger confirmed after the win over Blackpool that he was close to a return and Szczesny believes he is fit to play.
This will be a huge relief to Wenger with the news that Almunia is a major doubt which would leave him with only 41-year-old Lehman to face Liverpool.
Another injury boost comes with the news that Djourou is also back in training and if all goes well this week, he may be in contention come Sunday. Djourou was in fine form this season and looked to have finally put his injury problems behind him before a dislocated shoulder looked to have ruled him out for the season. But the injury didn’t require surgery and he was back in training yesterday and will push for a first team return this weekend.
Key players are returning to fitness at just the right time for the Gunners as they look to close the gap on manchester United and clinch an unlikely Premier League title.
