Robin Van Persie Set To Return
By Fab4.
Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has claimed he is on target to be playing again this season after returning to light training and should take part in Arsenal’s run-in. Van Persie has been out since November after injuring his ankle playing for his country and it looked as if he may be ruled out for the rest of the season, but he is now set to return to full training.
But in a recent interview, RVP said:
I am medically fit, but physically I have to gain,” he told Dutch television programme Studio Voetbal. “Only then can I train with the full group.
‘I’m not there yet but I’ve left a difficult period behind. For a few weeks I’ve been training with the ball and it looks good.
‘I still hope I can take part in the final phase of the league and hopefully the Champions League. This has been my goal from the beginning.
‘My first goal is to play for Arsenal. When I said that a few months ago, I looked crazy.
“But as it stands now, that will happen. Only then can I think about the World Cup”
This is encouraging news. I knew that he was back running and doing some cardio work, but not that he was actually in light training working with a football. Obviously players are eager to get playing again asap after being out for so long and he may just be being slightly optimistic as the final decision on when he returns for Arsenal is Arsene Wengers and i just can’t see him rushing Van Persie back.
I think the best we can hope for is for him to make the bench for the Man City game on the 24th April (and hopefully a champions league semi final!) and then possibly starting the Blackburn game on the 1st May. Although i could think of better places i would like to see RVP returning than at Ewood Park where he is sure to get kicked all over the park by Sam Allerdyce’s brutes.
There is no doubt that getting Van Persie back before the end of the season will be a major boost for Arsenal, but ultimately Arsene Wenger will decide when he is fit to return and his decision will no doubt be influenced heavily if Arsenal are still in the title chase come the end of April. Let’s hope they are!
Will we see RVP again this season? Please leave your comments below…..
