Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly ‘preparing to accelerate’ their efforts to sign RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande, as per Football Insider.
Following Michael Carrick’s arrival as the interim manager, the Red Devils accumulated 19 points from the first seven matches. However, they endured their first defeat against Newcastle United at St James’ Park in midweek. This was Carrick’s first loss as United’s interim boss across his two stints.
Following Liverpool’s defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Man Utd had a great opportunity to solidify their place in the top four. However, after Chelsea’s victory over Aston Villa, United’s lead over sixth-placed Liverpool is currently just three points.
Meanwhile, the Old Trafford club have already started exploring options to strengthen the squad this summer, and Football Insider state that they are planning to reinforce the left flank.
The Red Devils have earmarked Diomande as a serious option after being impressed by his performances this season and are ‘preparing to accelerate’ their efforts to finalise the operation in the summer.
However, signing the 19-year-old won’t be straightforward, with Liverpool also in the race as they plan for a future replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Reds are also prepared to step up efforts to seal the deal. Moreover, Bayern Munich are in this race as well.
The report claim that Leipzig ideally want to keep hold of him with his existing deal set to run until 2030. However, they are a selling club and are ready to cash-in on him should they receive an offer of around £80m.
Battle
Diomande is a left-winger by trait but is also efficient on the opposite side. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and also works hard without possession.
In 26 appearances across all competitions, the Leipzig star has netted 10 goals and registered six assists thus far this season. After proving his worth in club football, he has secured his place in the Ivory Coast national team.
Diomande is a top-class player and possesses the potential to become one of the best forwards in the world. So, he could be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd or Liverpool should either club eventually manage to secure his service this summer.
