Arsenal
I Love Him…But Someone Seriously Needs To Tell Him To Shut Up!
By Fab4.
Another day and another ‘we’re not good enough’ comment from Arsenal’s toughest critic, our very own Andrey Arshavin. In the latest of a string of interviews, Arshavin once again claims that he still doesn’t think Arsenal are strong enough to win anything this year. Terrific Andrey, cheers for that! What a thing to say as Arsenal sit second in the league, right in the title race and only a week away from playing Barcelona in the champion league quarter finals.
Firstly, i hope this is an old interview that has been re-published to get attention…which it may be. But i’m going on the assumption this is a new intervew. Here is what he said:
Arshavin told Russian TV: “I am still of the opinion that to win trophies we need more players. Without the variety of players we have less diversity in attack.
“There is the simple fact that last summer we sold two players (Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure) and bought only one (Thomas Vermaelen), so there is an obvious deficit of at least one. Then we lost Van Persie, Gibbs and Ramsey for a long time, so for me it is natural we need new players.”
“The Premier League is very interesting, as long as we continue fighting to win it. But without new experienced players, real stars, it will be difficult to achieve success. Ideally we need three or four such experienced players.”
So can someone explain how he could possibly think this is helpful to Arsenal ? How can one of our supposed best and most experienced players be allowed to constantly put his team mates down in the media?
Does he have the balls to stand in the dressing room and go round the squad pointing at players saying ‘Almunia…your not good enough’, ‘Bendtner…..your ok, but still not good enough’, ‘Cesc….your good enough’, ‘Denilson….your definitely not good enough’, and so on? No, he runs to the Russian media and his own website and bares his soul for all to read.
Do the Arsenal players not have a word with him about all this? I know i would. He should be supporting his club and team-mates at this time, not running his mouth in the press. It’s not only foolish but unprofessional from a player who should either have learned by now or have been banned from making such ridiculous statements. He may also be misinterpreted, but he should know this is possible by now and think about what he is saying.
Yes Arshavin is not only a quality player but he comes across as quite a funny, odd little fella, who is lovable in a way but that doesn’t give him the right to put down his team mates. Fans can do it, we pay their wages and support them every week. But players should not be allowed to air their opinions, especially not at such a crucial time of year when team spirit and confidence could be the difference.
I understood the similar comments he made after the Chelsea and Man Utd defeats, because he was correct, we looked to be out of the title race for another year and all Arsenal fans were calling for investment in the same way Andrey did. But the players, who he is criticising, have fought back superbly to be in with a great chance of winning the league. It may turn out that he is correct this time and Arsenal win nothing this season, but let’s find out first. It is such an irrelevant point to make at this time as we can’t sign anybody now anyway, so why say it?!
I for one am getting tired of his ‘honest’ out-bursts and feel he should be concentrating on playing football and showing some desire for 90 minutes every match, not when it suites him.
Andrey…keep your opinions to yourself until the summer, see if we won something and if not im sure your agent will do his best to get you your dream move to Barcelona. If you do leave, i will miss your talent and your hilarious sexist views on women drivers but i certainly won’t miss your poorly timed criticism of your team-mates.
