Transfer Chaos At The Emirates
Arsenal are reportedly set to splash in the summer transfer market on the 1st of July when they will announce the signings of Argentine starlet Ricky Alvarez, Ivory Coast international Gervinho, and Southampton midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. It looks as if Wenger is finally spending the money it takes to top the Premier League.
The question remains, is Wenger spending the money wisely? Coming into the summer transfer market, Wenger expressed the need for his club to get bigger and taller players that can make an impact in the heart of their defense. However, none of these new signings are defensive players, more specifically centre-backs, which many view as Arsenal’s major weakness.
Wenger’s sense of urgency – or lack thereof – recruiting a centre-back partner for Thomas Vermaelen must be questioned. Not only have the Gunners failed to wrap up Samba or Cahill yet, but Wenger continues to not let go of midfielder of Cesc Fabregas. The Spanish playmaker had a subpar year in 2010-11 and was absolutely dreadful in the Champions League defeat to Barcelona.
Yet the problems around the Emirates do not end there. French midfield maestro Samir Nasri has stated that he wants to be atop the Gunners weekly wages list and rumours that he is willing to leave the club to join Premier League champions Manchester United have unsettled many Arsenal supporters.
What do you think Arsenal’s biggest priority should be this summer?
