Arsenal
Arsenal Finally Hit Rock Bottom….
Ladies and gentleman, the bottom of the barrel has officially been reached. I’m running out of hope…and I’m even running out of words to describe my beloved Arsenal!
We played two games this weekend and managed to lead in both, and not win either…again. Was it pre-season or just two extra games in the 2010/2011 season? But its okay because Wenger pointed out that we didn’t concede from corners…phew that’s okay, we have decided to just concede from open play now.
I know they’re friendlies and all about getting fit, but surely if you go into the season having played some good pre-season games, it must help. Man City won, Man U won, Chelsea won but thankfully Aston Villa didn’t, I say this because Villa are our major rivals for the oh so important 7th place in the league.
We used pretty much our full squad for the games, which is a bit of a worry as it’s not very good, even in friendlies, if Van Persie is the only shining light. Please don’t make him Captain as it’s a sure sign he’ll leave us. Make any of the central defenders Captain, apart from Tommy (who, by the way, is going to need our sympathy this season, as he is a top quality farmer standing in field of dung), even Johan, who I was a fan of, is developing Silvestre qualities. Squillaci reminds me of a bride’s father dancing at a wedding – you know it shouldn’t happen, you know it’s embarrassing, you know he has two left feet, but there is nothing you can do about it. I’d like to say he’s a mistake waiting to happen but sadly he’s already happened.
On a slightly positive note, I sadly got a bit excited about us signing Jags from Everton. This is crazy, he is an above average defender and will no doubt make us better, but surely our problems at the back need more than just buying a player to solve, they need some high quality coaching, which right now doesn’t look like it’s happening, so, great if we buy him, but maybe improve the coaching and if possible get two new centre halves and move Tommy to left back. I’m convinced our current defenders are so used to chucking the ball in, they are scared to make any decisions regarding how to defend.
Regarding the gossip of Mata, huh, so what? Creative players we aren’t short of, maybe Wenger’s plan (just joshing of course, he doesn’t have a plan) is to win games 6-5, though we all know we’ll be 6 up and be hanging on for a draw.
I reckon that if you read this after the first few games of the season – I will have proved what an iffy pre-season does to the start of the season…
