Arsenal
Arshavin set to miss out
By Fab4.
Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin is a major doubt to play in Monday’s clash with Blackburn Rovers, with Arsene Wenger only giving him a “little chance” of taking part. Arshavin has been out with a claf strain since Arsenal’s champions league quarter-final first leg against Barcelona but was pencilled in to return at Ewood on Monday night, but is now set to miss out after struggling to shake off the problem.
However Arsene did have some good news for Arsenal fans, we have no new injury worries and Johan Djourou and Keiran Gibbs both took part in training this week, although neither will be considered unless absolutely necessary.
“From last Sunday we have no big injuries,” said Wenger. “Everybody is available and Robin Van Persie recovered quite well from his first complete 90 minutes.
“Arshavin has a little chance to be back in the squad. Denilson, Almunia and, of course, Fabregas, Gallas and Vermaelen are all still out.
“Gibbs and Djourou are back in the training squad. So for us it is a good period. We could start the season again!”
“They could figure if they are needed numbers-wise but otherwise they will not play.”
So a mixture of good news and bad news. Good news that Djourou and Gibbs are back on the mend, oh and Denilson is still out! But bad news that we still have several first teamers missing, but we knew most of them wouldn’t play again this season anyway so no surprises there Not that it really matters now we are officially out of the title race and only need 1 more point to secure third, we have very little left to play for.
That said, i think we should give some of the fringe players or those out of form a chance. The likes of Vela, Walcott, Troare, Merida, Eastmond and Eduardo should all be given some playing time during the last two games. Give them a chance to prove themselves and gain some confidence and experience.
