The Reasons Liverpool Dropped Points Against Norwich

Liverpool dropped two points against Norwich City yesterday despite being on the front foot for most of the 90 minutes.

It was a game that really should have been a formality for the Reds, but they were left to rue their missed oppourtunities, as the Norwich City fans went home the happier set of supporters in a game that Liverpool FC should have really won comfortably. So what lost Liverpool FC two precious points?

Not Clinical Enough

This reason has been used too often in recent weeks that Liverpool fans might even be deaf from hearing it so many times. But it remains the truth. Liverpool had many chances to win it outright, even the commentator said “Liverpool should really have been 2-0 up by the first half”.

Luis Suarez, albeit brilliant at creating chances, wasn’t as assured with his finishing, with most of his shots going pretty close to the keeper. I personally think that it has to be worked on.

Talk about not being clinical enough, Andy Carroll had a glorious chance to win it right at the death – with his speciality, heading the ball. Oh, how Liverpool fans would have loved it if it had gone into the back of the net sending us into rapturous applause.

We Fell Asleep

So many mistakes in the build-up that lead to us conceding the goal. Charlie Adam lost the ball rather carelessly, Jose Enrique was a bit too narrow, I had no idea where our central defence was, and Pepe Reina made a hash of punching the ball clear.

All these mistakes accumulated in a Norwich City goal. We killed ourselves, in other words, and we could have even been punished further but for a phenomenal one hand save from our Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina quite late on in the second half.

But There Were Still Some Positives..

Bellamy for one was a positive from the game, offering surging runs down the left flank to trouble Norwich City’s right back constantly throughout the game, even grabbing a goal on the stroke of half time before being taken off early on in the second half.

Downing also provided some quality from the right flank, providing some delicious crosses, only for them to be shot straight at the keeper. Although that can also be counted as a negative, not being too clinical in front of goal against Norwich City.

Glen Johnson lasting 90 minutes these days is always a positive. With his recent injury troubles, it’s nice to see the Englishman back into our starting XI, although I still think that Martin Kelly is the man that we should look for in terms of building a solid future and even because he is better than Glen Johnson (in my opinion) right now.
