Arsenal Transfer News: Lukas Podolski Set For Medical?
Lukas Podolski has decided to delay a sinus operation sparking rumours he could be set for a medical ahead of a proposed move to Arsenal or Liverpool in January
Lukas Podolski has decided to delay a sinus operation sparking rumours he could be set for a medical ahead of a proposed move this January.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the German hitman, but Liverpool and more recently AC Milan have also been credited with interest.
The 26-year-old has complained of chronic sinus problems in recent months and had planned to undergo a routine operation this week, which would keep him sidelined for up to 5 days.
Podolski had arranged the operation to take place while FC Cologne are on their winter break to ensure he wouldn’t miss any matches, with the Germans not returning to action until they play Wolfsburg on the 21st January.
So the decision to postpone the operation is a little strange and one that has lead to rumours that Podolski wanted to be available for a potential medical, with some even suggesting a move has already been agreed and the striker cancelled the operation to undergo his medical where the sinus issue would be assessed.
It must be stressed that these are only rumours at this point and the official reason given in German publication Bild Daily for the delay is that Podolski was worried he would miss five days of training and was concerned he would take a while to regain his full fitness.
The chances are these rumours have been started by hopeful Arsenal fans but it’s certainly an intriguing situation and you have to question why a player would arrange an operation at a convenient time when he has no matches to play for 3 weeks, only to cancel it at the last minute amid intense rumours over his future. Once the season get’s underway again, he’s not going to have the opportunity to have the operation again until the end of the season, so why not just get the issue sorted out now? He’d have almost 2 weeks to get in shape for the Wolfsburg game.
If Podolski is set for a move, the big question is; where is he going? If he’s not moving, looks like he’ll just have to put up with his sinus pain for a little longer.
