TRANSFER TALK: Spurs battle United for World Cup pair
By Football Talk.
Tottenham are reportedly trying to push through deals for two World Cup stars, in a bid to stave off competition from the likes of Manchester United. Its no secret that manager Harry Redknapp is on the look-out for both a centre-back and a striker and if today’s reports are accurate, it seems his top targets are Danish stopper Simon Kjaer and Uruguay hitman Luis Suarez, who have both been linked with Manchester United recently.
Spurs target £13m Kjaer
Tottenham are trying to complete a quick deal for Palermo centre-back Simon Kjaer and believe £13m will be enough to get their man, according to Italian website Datasport. The 21-year-old has enjoyed two outstanding seasons in Serie A with Palermo and earlier this week the clubs president Maurizio Zamparini said he was prepared to sell the player with both Spurs and United interested.
Zamparini said, “I must find a replacement. Kjaer’s valuation is between €15m and €20m,”I know of talks with the two Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Wolfsburg. Inter have not called me so I don’t know if they’re interested,”
But now Tottenham are hoping to steal a march on their rivals and finalise talks on a £13m transfer as Harry Redknapp tries to strengthen ahead of next seasons Champions League campaign, and bringing one of Europe’s most highly-rated young defenders to the club would be a sign of intent from the London club. Kjaer is currently out in South Africa representing Denmark.
Redknapp after Suarez
Tottenham are keeping tabs on Manchester United target Luis Suarez as Harry Redknapp tries to bolster his strike force ahead of next season, according to reports this morning. The 23-year-old scored an amazing 49 goals for Ajax last season and headed Uruguay’s winner against Mexico’s on Tuesday while representing his country at the World Cup.
Suarez has a contract with Ajax that expires in 2013 and the Dutch club value him at around £25m, a figure that has put off the likes of Manchester United who have been heavily linked with a move for the hitman.
