TRANSFER NEWS: Spurs £28m bid accepted
By Football Talk.
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini claims that he has accepted a £28m offer from Tottenham for Simon Kjaer and Edinson Cavani. Zamparini’s comments come less than a week after he announced that Spurs were lining up the bid, but it now appears that the Londoners have tabled a firm offer that was too good to turn down.
“Tottenham have bid €35million, an offer we cannot refuse, seeing as the two players have both said they want to leave,” Zamparini told Sky Italia television.
“We will reinvest the money for these players,” said Zamparini. “The midfield is my biggest concern, whereas in defence and attack we are fairly covered.”
Danish centre back Kjaer has attracted interest from all over Europe, with the likes of Manchester United and Inter Milan said to be monitoring him, while Manchester City and Wolfsburg are said to be keen on Cavani.
But Tottenham seem to have stolen a march on their rivals with a double swoop that would be an early sign of intent from the champions league qualifiers, as Harry Redknapp looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
If Spurs are successful in their efforts to sign Kjaer, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will have to look elsewhere as he seeks a possible replacement for Nemanja Vidic who is said to be considering his Old Trafford future amid interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan.
