Villas-Boas – I Don’t Need The Players Backing
Andre Villas-Boas has risked a further backlash from his players after claiming he doesn’t need their backing, and he only needs the backing of Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has risked a further backlash from his players after claiming he doesn’t need their backing, and he only needs the backing of owner Roman Abromovich.
Villas-Boas has come under a huge amount of pressure after another disappointing performance during last weekends 2-0 loss to Everton left them outside the Champions League places.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the former Porto manager has had meetings with owner Roman Abramovich recently and had his tactics questioned by several key members of his squad.
But when asked at his weekly press conference today if the players backed him, Villas-Boas is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying that the players don’t have to back his project, and the owners backing is all that matters, while he also confirmed that meetings have taken place between his staff and the players:
‘They don’t have to back my project, only the owner needs to back my project.’
‘There was a meeting of technical staff and players, nothing dramatic. Everybody understands we need more and responsibility for this must be shared between the players and management.’ The 35-year-old said in the Daily Mail.
