Spurs Close In On Vertonghen After Defender Holds Talks At White Hart Lane
Tottenham Hotspur have become the clear favourites to sign Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen after the player watched Sunday’s 2-0 win over Fulham at White Hart Lane
Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen after the player watched Sunday’s 2-0 win over Fulham at White Hart Lane, according to the Daily Mail.
The Belgian stopper has only one year remaining on his current contract with the newly crowned Eredivisie champions and has been strongly linked with a move to both Arsenal and Tottenham in recent months.
However, the Daily Mail are reporting that Spurs are closing in on the 25-year-old after inviting him and his agent, Nakhli Mustapha, along for informal talks after Sunday’s win over Fulham at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham are believed to have offered Ajax £7m for their captain, with the Dutch side holding out for nearer £9m, but it seems a matter of time before the two clubs reach an agreement.
Should Tottenham win the race to sign Vertonghen it will be a bitter blow to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, but it’s thought that the offer of guaranteed first team football has persuaded him to make the move to the White half of North London.
