Van Persie Staying At Arsenal, Whether He Likes It Or Not
Dutch striker Robin van Persie will be forced to stay at Arsenal and see out the final year of his current deal if he refuses to sign a new contract extension
Robin van Persie will be forced to stay Arsenal and see out the final year of his contract if he refuses to sign a new deal, according to the Daily Mail.
Arsenal’s much anticipated contract talks with Robin van Persie will begin today and the Mail are claiming that Arsene Wenger will tell the Dutchman that if he doesn’t agree to sign a contract extension, they will refuse to sell him and he’ll be forced to see-out the final year of his current deal.
Wenger will be joined by chief executive Ivan Gazidis in the meeting, where it’s expected that they will offer RVP a club record £130,000-a-week three-year contract, plus a £5m signing-on bonus, in a bid to persuade him to remain at the club.
However, should the Dutchman insist he wants to leave the Arsenal, officials feel it’s in their best interest to hold on to the 30-goal striker and risk loosing him for nothing in 12 months time. Manchester City have been strongly linked with a move for Van Persie, but they could face competition from the likes of Manchester United and Juventus according to the Mail.
I’ve said all along that, one way or another, i think Van Persie will still be at Arsenal next year. Of course we all want him to sign a new deal and commit to the club, but if he refuses to do so i think it’s best for Arsenal to keep him for another year, unless we receive a bid too good to turn down from either Real Madrid or Barcelona. Under no circumstances should we consider selling to another Premier League side.
But fingers crossed we hear positive news coming from the contract talks this week, as another summer of uncertainty is the last thing Gooners need. COYG
