Wojciech Szczesny enjoyed a great season between the sticks during his first full season as Arsenal No.1. The confident young keeper has become something of a fan favourite at the Emirates and i’m sure i’m not the only Gooner who hopes to see the ‘Pole between the goal’ at the Emirates for years to come.
Szczesny’s season began with what is arguably not only his best ever save, but probably his most important to date, when he denied Udinese’s Di Natalie from the spot with a stunning save that all but ensured Arsenal’s progress to the champions league group stages. Another stand-out moment of the season for me was the double save to deny Dirk Kuyt first from the spot then his follow up at Anfield. Arsenal ended up winning that game 2-1 and it was a vital result in setting us up on a great mid-season charge back into the top three.
His form did dip slightly towards the end of the season but we’ve now learned he’s been playing with an injury for nearly two months and was forced to have pain killing injections before games, so that may go some way to explaining his patchy late season form. Here’s a compilation of Szczesny’s best bits of 2011/12, what’s your favourite moment?
