Chelsea To Raid Arsenal As Roman’s Spending Set To Continue
Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is one of three players Chelsea have identified as potential recruits, as Roman Abramovich continues splashing the cash this summer.
Chelsea are ready to raid Arsenal for winger Theo Walcott, as Roman Abramovich continues splashing the cash this summer.
The Mirror report that the Blues will move for Walcott along with Ajax full back Gregory van der Wiel and Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote, taking their spending to well over the £100m mark.
The European champions are close to securing nearly £80m worth of talent in Lille playmaker Eden Hazard and Porto striker Hulk, while Marko Marin is already in the bag.
It’s believed that Chelsea officials feel right back, defensive midfield and right wing are three areas that need strengthening ahead of next season, and van der Wiel, Tiote and Walcott are their top targets.
Walcott’s future at Arsenal is in doubt as the England winger has only one year left on his current contract and terms over an extension are yet to be agreed. The Blues are hoping to take advantage of this uncertainty and temp the 23-year-old to Stamford Bridge.
With no manager appointed, Abramovich is dictating the clubs summer recruitment plans along with technical director Michael Emenalo and will listen to offers for Florent Malouda, Michael Essien and Daniel Sturridge, while Didier Drogba, Saloman Kalou and Jose Bosingwa have all been released.
